Wedu implemented the sixth U.S.-ASEAN Women’s Leadership Academy for YSEALI from August 10-24, 2020, and this time is was virtual!
The Academy provided a platform for selected young women leaders from Southeast Asia to participate in online seminars that challenged them to reflect on personal and professional goals and to further develop their leadership skills. Participants left motivated and inspired, amidst this pandemic, to continue working to promote and improve the economic development in the region and collaborate together for a better future.
Amazing things can happen when leaders unite. 33 women leaders from all 10 ASEAN countries and Timor Leste joined forces in Jakarta, Indonesia to develop their leadership styles and to collaborate on ways to address challenges in the region. The year 2019 marks the 5th anniversary of YSEALI Women’s Leadership Academy. Working together with the U.S. Mission to ASEAN, we’ve been the implementing partner for this Academy since 2016.
In partnership with Development Innovations (Cambodia), Wedu implemented the program “Leadership Training and Mentoring for Young Women in Tech” to provide young women who are currently pursuing an education or career in the tech fields in Cambodia. From February to June 2019 twenty young Cambodian women from different provinces have benefited from one to one mentorship, leadership training and access to the Wedu Leadership Development Platform online. This program concluded with the event “Women’s Leadership Academy for Women in Tech” attended by all participants and took place from 28 – 30 June 2019 in Phnom Penh.
In partnership with the British Embassy in Cambodia, Wedu delivered 19 training and mentorship sessions in total and reached 551 young women participants in Phnom Penh and other two provinces (Kampong Chhnang and Kampong Speu). During the program, several professional women in STEM were invited to share about their journey and share advice with participants.
In partnership with U.S Embassy in Brunei Darussalam, Wedu implements the Young Southeast Asian Leaders Initiative (YSEALI) Generation Workshop: Advancing Gender Equality from 7-11 October 2019. Bringing together 50 emerging leaders from Southeast Asia, the workshop aims to be an avenue for participants to find collaborative solutions to closing the gender gap as well as nurture a Southeast Asia community with regional and cross-border cooperation.
International Women’s Day (March 8th) is about uniting people from around the world to accelerate gender equality and inclusion. We joined with so many of our own community and others to celebrate International Women’s Day 2019. Our main event was held in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, the event included a panel of guest speakers, a Leadership Journey talk with Rising Star and Wedu Cambodia board member, and concluded with a Mentor Walk that all attendees could participate in. We were happy to take part in Cisco Systems’ Women of Impact 2019 event in Bangkok, Thailand. Ending the week on a high note, WeWork Thailand invited Wedu to partake in their panel discussing women in tech.
In September 2017, we asked Rising Stars to share video stories about their leadership journeys and were blown away by the creativity, talent, and authenticity of the submissions. Watch our first place video from Suthasiny (Moh) of Thailand!
